Aliens exists but too remote to connect: Scientist
Toronto: Earth is one of some 40 billion possibly livable worlds in the galaxy — with at least a new life-friendly planet forming every year, a study has exposed including that our Milky Way may be an abode to almost 3,000 extra-terrestrial civilisations. Though, their distant locations make it difficult to reach out to them.
Michael Garrett, chief of the Dutch astronomy research foundation, ASTRON said “We are talking about civilisations that have to be around for at least a few thousand years in order to have the opportunity to talk to each other.” Unveiling his findings at the International Astronomical Congress in Toronto recently, Garrett said that this does not indicate that astronomers should not hunt for alien life.
For the analysis, he gathered data from NASA’s Kepler space telescope and other observatories probing for planets further than the solar system.
To uncover life beyond earth, a number of scientists are concerned with the Search for Extra-terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) – a collective name for a number of activities commenced to chase intelligent extra-terrestrial life.
SETI projects make use of scientific methods to look for extra-terrestrial life. For example, electromagnetic radiation is observed for signs of transmissions from civilisations on other planets.
Garrett concluded that SETI signals will be unusual in the Galaxy.
